Synopsis So Many Journeys is a book of contemporary writings on Bharatanatyam by the well-known dancer Geeta Chandran (with Rajiv Chandran). The book is a compilation of the dancer’s impressions on her journey with classical dance. The articles are an insider’s view of a difficult profession; some of them intensely personal and autobiographical. The book is an offering to the contemporary dance-dialogue written by a practitioner who loves her dance and takes immense pride in the fact that she had the opportunity to learn this wonderful art form at the feet of stalwart gurus, and who has continued to experience great joy and satisfaction in performing it and sharing it with widening audiences. Lavishly produced and illustrated, this book aims at moving Indian publishing on the arts to a new frontier. It received the Best Art Book Award for the year 2006 from the Federation of Indian Publishers.

About the author A star-performer and celebrity-artist amongst today's generation of dancers, Geeta Chandran is a dance-bridge between the pristine classical style of Bharatanatyam and a more contemporary dance aesthetic. Geeta is Founder-President of NATYA VRIKSHA, an organization that enshrines the best philosophies of Indian classical culture. She is celebrated not only for her deep and composite understanding of the art of Bharatanatyam, but also for her Carnatic music (she is an accomplished vocalist), her work in television, video and film, theatre, choreography, dance-education and dance-issue journalism. Rajiv Chandran is a commentator on the arts, trends and popular culture. His dance criticisms are published under his pen name: Shani. He is National Information Officer at the United Nations Information Centre, New Delhi.
