Synopsis Since language is the foundation of all learning, the planning for teaching languages demands not only a scholarly but psychological approach, too. Thought the three language formula is an official language policy of the Government of India, yet the fact cannot be denied that its impact on the genre public should be assessed. The students, the teachers and the public men are directly or indirectly affected by such policies, especially when the curriculum is being loaded by the advanced scientific subjects in theist fast moving world of today. Moreover 15 languages have been given equal status in the Constitution of India. Besides, the knowledge of one of the international languages has also become imperative. The students are compelled to learn whoever languages are being offered by the authorities of the educational institutions. If the future of the mother tongue and the official language of our country remain dark where lies the future of the language of the scriptures - our cultural heritage? The learning of a common language as a great unifying force for integrating the different states is another requirement. Moreover, the autonomy given to states in the field of education creates another hurdle in the solutions, if there is any. The author is this book has made an effort to highlight such burning issues.
