About the author Prof. Subodh Shankar is a nationally known Architect- Town Planner. He obtained his bachelor of architecture degree with honours from world renowned Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1970 and post graduation from Institute of Town Planners, India. He is the fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects and Institute of Town Planners, India. He has more than 50 years of exceptional professional experience in Private, Central and State Governments. His 30 years long tenure with U.P. Housing & Development Board has been full of laurels and achievements, most important being Architect in-Charge of HUDCO sponsored First Prize Winning Low Cost Housing Project (1979) at Lucknow. He retired on the post of Chief Architect Planner in the year 2006. Thereafter, he joined fulltime academics and worked with premier educational institutions - Amity and Integral University, as Professor and Dean of Architecture Faculty. He has held the coveted post of the Chairman of U.P. Chapter of Institute of Town Planners, India and Member of the Education Standing Committee of ITPI New Delhi. He is the recipient of the Life Time Achievement Award from U. P. Architects Association for his immense contribution towards Housing and Urban Planning. He has to his credit, publication of more than 50 technical papers/ presentations in national and international magazines, journals, forums etc. He has been a Member of the Editorial Board of Indian Institute of Architect’s Journal (1977-78).
