Synopsis Pride and Prejudice is a romantic novel by Jane Austen set in the 18th century, first published in 1813. The story plot is about Bennet family that has 5 unmarried but attractive daughters. Mrs. Bennet is always looking for eligible prospects for her daughters especially military officers, until one day the family meets two rich, good looking and eligible bachelors who come to stay in their neighbourhood. Things are starting to build, speculations rise and sparks fly when the youngest daughter Elizabeth encounters the young and rich Mr. Darcy. But shortly after the two gentlemen leave for London leaving the whole town wondering will they come back?

About the author Jane Austen (1775-1817) was extremely modest about her own genius but has become one of English literature's most famous women writers. She is the author of Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Persuasion, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey. Fiona Stafford is a Fellow and Tutor in English at Somerville College, Oxford. Tony Tanner was a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge, and Professor of English and American Literature at Cambridge.
