Synopsis Women in the Indian society have been victims of humiliation, torture and exploitation for as long as we have written records of social organization and family life. GVK EMRI in association with Government of Gujarat and Government of Uttar Pradesh established an operating 181 Women Helpline. The free 24x7 helpline, 181, is a toll-free number to support women in distress and is accessible through any mobile or landline. Any woman can access the 181 Abhayam helpline for counseling, guidance, information and also for rescue from various threatening situations including domestic violence. 'Abhayam' is also supported by rescue vans with counselors and lady constable. With the range of work these helpline workers are doing they are bound to be under stress. This book makes an attempt to look into the lives of women helpline workers who help others in distress and assess their stress levels so as to come up with better coping strategies.
