Santosh Bakaya

An academician, essayist-novelist-poet, Dr Santosh Bakaya is the author of three mystery novels for young adults, and a book of essays titled Flights From My Terrace. Her highly-rated poetic biography of Mahatma Gandhi, Ballad Of Bapu was published by Vitasta Publishers, Delhi, India in May 2015. Although a Political theorist, with a doctorate in political theory, it is literature that has been Dr Bakayas first love. Many of her poems have figured in the highly commended category in Destiny Poets, a UK based website and many are part of international anthologies. She was awarded the Reuel international award for language and literature 2014 for her long poem Oh Hark!

Umbilical Chords

Every life has an Umbilical Cord connected to the universe - an unseen passage through which our lives are being nourished and by which we attain the shape and size to be born. When we gain maturity to be free upon the universal sphere we are disconnected and liberated to the vastest cosmos. It was my heavenly mother who detached myself from her physical body by cutting the Umbilical Cord connected to her, and my divine father from the rest of the world by cutting the unseen cord that attached me to the rest of the physical world. Probably, each time I cried aloud for detachment causes pain initially though it free us ultimately. They have flown away towards the horizons of eternity and when I look at the skies, there are colours fading into each other to make the mystic dark. In the silence I can listen to their laughter, I can hear them cautioning to see myself fit for life, I can hear them weeping when I fall tired upon the hardest paths. But everytime when I fall, I see those arms stretching towards me to see their son standing up again, fearless! This is the magic of parental love that can never be compared to any other bond in the world.
