किरण सैगल ओडिसी नृत्य की नवीनतम एवं अतीव प्रतिभाशाली नृत्यांगना तथा नृत्यनिदेर्शिका हैं। वे युवाओं के बीच ओडिसी नृत्य के प्रति जागरूकता उत्पन्न करने में रुचि रखती हैं। वे अपने व्याख्यानों, प्रदर्शनों, कार्यशालाओं और वार्ताओं के माध्यम से इस प्राचीन नृत्यकला को भारत के कोने कोने में ले गई है। किरण ने इकतालीस देशों में अपने नृत्य का प्रदर्शन किया है और प्रमुख नृत्य त्योहारों में भी भाग लिया है। उन्हें भारतीय शास्त्रीय नृत्य में उनके समर्पण और योगदान के लिए नेशनल एकेडमी अाॅफ म्यूजिक एंड डांस द्वारा संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार, 2002, राष्ट्रपति द्वारा पद्मश्री, 2002, नीलमाधव पुरस्कार, 2002, कला श्रेष्ठ सम्मान, 2000, इंदिरा गांधी प्रियदर्शनी पुरस्कार, 2000, नृत्य विलास 1993, नृत्य सरस्वती, 1991, परिशद सम्मन, दिल्ली सरकार, 1986, श्रृंगार मणि, 1979 और कला मणि 1976 सहित अनेक पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। 2011 में उन्हें उनके सांस्कृतिक योगदान के लिए मेरी दिल्ली पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया। नृत्य के प्रति एकाग्रता एवं लगाव ने किरण को नई दिल्ली में पल्लवी-ओडिसी नृत्य संगीत विद्यालय स्थापित करने के लिए प्रेरित किया है जहां वह युवा नर्तकों को प्रशिक्षण प्रदान करती है और उनकी प्रतिभा को संवारती है। उनके कुछ शिष्य संस्कृति मंत्रालय और दिल्ली सरकार से नृत्य के लिए छात्रवृत्ति प्राप्त कर चुके हैं और कर रहे हैं। कई अन्य अब संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका, युएसएसअार और इंग्लैंड में बस चुके हैं। वे ओडिसी नृत्य को अपने जीवन में एक मार्गदर्शक शक्ति के रूप में देखती हैं। Translator बाल किशन बाली (एम. ए. राजनीति विज्ञान, डिप्लोमा हिन्दी पत्रकारिता) लेखक, अनुवादक, गीतकार, व स्वतंत्र पत्रकार, हैं। इनकी लिखी और अनुवादित की गई डाक्युमेन्ट्रीज दूरदर्शन, टाॅपर, राज्यसभा टीवी और नैशनल ज्योग्राफिक चैनल पर प्रसारित हुई हैं। इसके अलावा ये क्षेत्रिय फिल्में और एल्बम बनाने में सक्रिय हैं। संपर्कः- [email protected] Kiran Segal is one of the most innovative and outstanding dancers/choreographers of Odissi today. She takes a sincere interest in inculcating an awareness in Odissi dance among the youth; her lecture demonstrations, workshops and talks have taken this ancient dance form to the remotest corners of India. Kiran has performed in forty-one countries all over the world and has also participated in major dance festivals. She has been honoured with several titles and awards for her dedication and contribution to Indian classical dance, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, given by the National Academy of Music and Dance, 2002; the Padmashree, presented by the President of India, 2002; the Neelamadhava Award, 2002; the Kala Shreshtha Sammaan, 2000; the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award, 2000; the Nritya Vilas, 1993; the Nritya Saraswati, 1991; the Parishad Sammaan, Delhi Government, 1986; the Shringaar Mani, 1979 and the Kala Mani, 1976. In 2011, she was given the Meri Dilli award for her contribution to culture. Kiran’s single-minded and deep-rooted attachment to dance has led her to establish Pallavi—Odissi Nritya Sangeet Vidyalaya in New Delhi where she imparts training and grooms young dancers. Some of her disciples are and have been recipients of scholarships for dance from the Ministry of Culture and the Government of Delhi. Several others are now based in the USA, the USSR and the UK. She continues to look upon Odissi dance as a guiding force in her life.
