Synopsisअकबर बीसवीं सदी की शुरुआत में गाँधी, उनके कौमी आन्दोलन और हिन्दू-मुस्लिम एकता के ख़याल के बहुत बड़े कायल बन चुके थे। सरकारी नौकरी में होने के कारण वह गाँधी के आम-फ़हम जन-आन्दोलन में शामिल नहीं हो सकते थे और गाँधी के मुरीदों की बढ़ती हुई तादाद की तुलना कृष्ण की गोपियों से करते थे जिनसे कृष्ण हमेशा घिरे रहते थे। अकबर लिखते हैं : मदखोला गवर्नमेंट अगर अकबर न होता उसको भी आप पाते गाँधी की गोपियों में 1919-21 के बीच लिखी गयी छोटी-छोटी नज़्मों की एक कड़ी अकबर का गाँधीनामा, एकता कायम करने वालों का एक विजयगान है और आज़ादी के लिए एक सियासी आन्दोलन जो सिर्फ हिन्दुओं और मुसलमानों द्वारा बराबर की भूमिका अदा करते हुए चलाया जा सकता था। यह 1946 में उनके पोते, सैयद मुहम्मद मुस्लिम रिज़वी द्वारा एक किताब की शक्ल में शाया करवाया गया था। अपने पाठकों को फ़ारसी क्लासिक शाहनामा की तरह के इस क्लासिक तोप की आला दर्जे की शायरी से दूर रहने के लिए कहते हुए वह अपने गाँधीनामा की शुरुआत इस प्रकार करते हैं : इन्क़लाब आया, नयी दुनिया, नया हंगामा है शाहनामा हो चुका अब दूर गाँधीनामा है अकबर के गाँधीनामा में बहुत कुछ है, जो ठीक सौ साल पहले लिखा गया था और जो आज भी हमारे लिए बहुत मायनेखेज़, फ़ायदेमन्द और प्रासंगिक है।
